President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. 

Ramaphosa made the remarks at the presidential guest house in Pretoria on Wednesday, where he received letters of credence from 20 heads of mission and ambassadors.

It's been more than a month since the conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel escalated, leading to soaring global oil prices. 

Ramaphosa said he hopes the ceasefire will lead to a permanent deal. 

"South Africa once again calls for dialogue and mediation to prevent further loss of life and destruction of property and to ensure a just, sustainable and lasting peace."
