With Julius Malema set to be sentenced next week, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader says he’s still in the process of appealing his conviction.

Malema is returning to the East London Magistrates' court next Wednesday and Thursday for sentencing after violating firearm laws.

His case stems from a 2018 rally in Mdantsane, where he was seen on video firing shots into the air in front of thousands of supporters.

Malema says he believes his conviction was fundamentally flawed.
"You can see that someone is doing everything in their power to get me to jail. So I have no problem with that. We are going there ready and knowing what the other side wants from us. You can see that they are coming from a kill."
