Local fight fans will flock to Pretoria’s SunBet Arena for the first PFL (Professional Fighters League) Africa event of the year.
Two of South Africa’s top fighters will headline an exciting card that promises a night of hard-hitting action.
Anticipation has been building in Jacaranda City during fight week, with South Africa’s Nkosi Ndebele set to defend his PFL Africa Bantamweight title against Italy’s Michele Clemente in Friday night’s main event.
Another local favourite, Justin Clarke, is set for a heavyweight showdown with Senegal’s Abdoulaye Kane in the co-main event.
Mzansi’s Peace Ngupane will be looking to make a statement on his PFL Africa debut in a Showcase Welterweight bout against current Welterweight champion, Yabna N’Tchala. Shannon van Tonder and Asiashu Tshitamba will face off in an all-South African Bantamweight bout on the prelims.
Excitement around Time Square has been building with each passing day following the initial faceoff between the fighters at the Union Building on Tuesday.
The athletes were calm and collected during Wednesday’s media day, resembling the atmosphere of a brewing storm.
Thursday’s ceremonial Weigh-Ins were held on the SunBet Arena’s doorsteps, as fans were able to get a glimpse of gladiators going into battle, surprisingly without any tensions amongst the competitors.
Ndebele, nicknamed "The King of Many Nations", claimed he’s going to put on a spectacle against his Italian opponent in what he claimed could very well be his last appearance on African soil.
The Bantamweight champion believes it’s his time to “go global”, revealing that his bout against "The Arrow" will set him off on his path to greatness. “I wanna go global – it’s where I belong,” said Ndebele, who sets his sights on conquering the world.
Clarke, meanwhile, is intent on bouncing back from a devastating 21-second knockout in last season’s finale.
He heads into his Heavyweight clash against Kane with refreshed energy and renewed focus, playfully joking that he’s “a new person now”.
Clarke claimed, “I think I have faced probably the most terrible type of loss that can happen in MMA [Mixed Martial Arts].”
This, as he looks to rise from the ashes of defeat last December.
A packed house is expected at the SunBet Arena, with over 90% of tickets being sold ahead of the event. South Africa’s fight-hungry fans are in for a treat of world-class MMA action.
