The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are unimpressed that suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola will still be receiving his salary while away from work.

The party said that this mirrors what it has termed the disgraceful handling of the suspension of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu in July last year.

Masemola was suspended by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday afternoon, pending criminal charges against him for the mismanagement of public finances in connection with a healthcare tender linked to notorious tenderpreneur Vusimuzi Cat Matlala.

The EFF said that Masemola’s suspension on full pay confirms a pattern under an ANC-DA led government of corruption not being punished, but rather managed, accommodated and protected.

The red berets have also cautioned Masemola’s stand-in, Puleng Dimpane, to resist being drawn into factional battles within the SAPS and that her tenure is not used to shield corrupt individuals.
