Residents and motorists around the FNB Stadium precinct in Nasrec are being warned of multiple road closures ahead of the Soweto Derby.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said the Soweto Highway between Mentz Street and the N1 north on ramp, as well as Crownwood Road and Booysens Reserve, will be closed from Sunday midday.

It said Nasrec Road will serve as the main access route, with a strict traffic exclusion zone in place to manage congestion and prioritise pedestrians and public transport.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged spectators to arrive early and plan their trips carefully.

“JMPD officers will be on-site to enforce traffic regulations and ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists. Alternative routes motorists can use to avoid the precinct are the M1, N1 and N12 highways, Main Reef Road, Crown Road, Aerodrome Road and Adcock-Ingram Avenue. We urge all road users to familiarise themselves with these measures and ensure parking is secured prior to arrival.”
