A Limpopo traffic officer has been arrested and is facing corruption charges on suspicion of taking a bribe from a truck driver in Polokwane.

According to police, the 35-year-old officer was seen allegedly accepting money and cold drinks from the driver along Matlala Road, adding that the officer attempted to flee but was later stopped in Westenburg.

Officers recovered 2-litre cold drinks and six hundred rand in cash he allegedly failed to explain.

Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba has welcomed the arrest, warning that corruption within law enforcement will not be tolerated.

“Following further questioning and after no reasonable explanation was provided, the suspect was arrested on a charge of corruption. The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.”
