Pro-Palestine supporters in Cape Town are calling for a boycott of the DA, accusing the party of being complicit in the war in Gaza.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing more than 1200 people and taking around 250 hostages.

Israel's subsequent military offensive in Gaza has since killed more than 70,000 people.

A small group of pro-Palestine activists, under the banner of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, picketed outside the Western Cape Legislature on Tuesday, calling on the DA to publicly denounce the war in Gaza.

South Africa has taken Israel to the International Court of Justice, arguing its actions in Gaza amount to genocide.

Palestine Solidarity Campaign's Usuf Chikta said the DA has remained silent while thousands continue to die.

"We are telling Cyril Ramaphosa to stand firm and not to let our position be whittled away by the DA, and also not for them to undermine what the position of the South African government is."

The DA has maintained it supports for a two-state solution to the conflict.
