The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) Bellville office manager, Celiwe Mngqongiwe, says the new online system for grant applications and status verification has recently improved service delivery.
SASSA has introduced several measures to protect its system from fraud, identity theft, and long queues.
These include enhanced security features such as fingerprint and facial recognition, which have been in place since September last year.
Mngqongiwe said the office is also using Wi-Fi and group assistance to speed up the application process.
She added that the new system is assisting significantly.
"Because beneficiaries are now able to do their own bookings when they want to do the disability grants on their phones. They're able to apply for the SRD on their phones, and they are able to apply for the child support grant on their own phones. They're also able to verify themselves on their cellphones. Those that we are assisting here in the office are those that are unable to do it on their own."
