(Skip to 2:58 for this one):
The first clinical trial of its kind suggests that adults with severe peanut allergies can be desensitised by daily exposure.
The Grown-Up Peanut Immunotherapy clinical trial tests whether daily doses of peanuts taken under strict medical supervision can be safely tolerated.
This approach has been successful in infants and children.
Two thirds of patients in the trial were able to consume the equivalent of five peanuts with no reaction by the end of the trial.
“This is not a 'try this at home' kind of thing for anyone who has any kind of allergy, particularly a severe allergy to nuts.”
