Democratic Alliance (DA) member of parliament Dianne Kohler is the second MP to be implicated in the commission of inquiry into political interference within the criminal justice system.
Testifying at the commission in Pretoria on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi criticised Kohler for disclosing classified intelligence.
Although she serves on parliament’s joint committee for intelligence, its members are prohibited from making classified information public.
In June, Kohler issued a DA media statement revealing that the inspector-general of intelligence had completed a probe into alleged unlawful property acquisitions.

Mkhwanazi has argued before the inquiry this afternoon that by releasing classified details, Barnard had undermined state intelligence.
"What we see here is a person who has a legal obligation to keep her mouth shut and divulge this information to the joint standing committee. Instead, she went public. The risk of this is that it forces members of the intelligence to defend themselves, divulging secrets of the state."
