Police Commissioner accuses MP Fadiel Adams of reckless handling of intelligence documents

National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams, has been implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for allegedly misusing his position to obtain classified intelligence information.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi testified today that Adams leveraged his role on Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police to access intelligence documents he was not authorised to view.

This is despite Adams not being a member of the Joint Portfolio Committee on Intelligence, which is the body intended to handle such information.

Mkhwanazi told the commission that Adams also mishandled the classified information.

“Mr. Adams appeared to have come into the possession of intelligence information and this information is classified. It is information that is intended for another structure of parliament. If such information comes to him, he ought to know that it must be handed over to the joint standing committee in intelligence.”
