Discovery shoots the lights out with record profit

Motheo Khoaripe talks to Group CEO Adrian Gore about Discovery's full-year results.

The Discovery Group has reported a strong annual performance for the financial year to end-June 2025.

The company stable includes Discovery Health, Discovery Bank, Discovery Life, Discovery Invest and Discovery Insure

Growth in normalised profit in what are now two well defined operational composites yielded 22% for Discovery South Africa and 70% for Vitality.

Both headline earnings and normalised headline earnings jumped by 30%, to R9 625 million and R9 781 million respectively.

The group says Discovery Bank continued to deliver high-quality growth - total clients increased by 30%, advances by 39% and deposits by 26%.

This resulted in the Bank's first profitable period during the second half of the financial year, ahead of plan.

The group declared a final dividend of 201 cents per share, an increase of 32% over the prior reporting period.

Discovery CEO Adrian Gore says it has been a tremendous year, with their growth recorded on the back of exceptional performance across the group.

Gore also highlights the 'incredible' performance of Discovery Bank during the past financial year.

"And beyond reaching its first profitability in the second half of the year, it's the scale of the Bank, its rate of growth, the quality of the client... It's now the fastest growing bank in the country."
