JOHANNESBURG - Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Deputy Secretary General Nombuso Mkhize has left the party and joined Floyd Shivambu’s Mayibuye Consultation Process.
Mayibuye has announced this in a statement, saying she has been hired as the organisation’s head of Presidency.
Mkhize is the latest high-profile departure from the MK Party, following Shivambu’s demotion as Secretary General.
She is a former prison warder at the Estcourt Correctional Centre, where MK Party leader Jacob Zuma was incarcerated for two months.
It's alleged Mkhize made an impression on Zuma, leading to the former State president hiring her as the MK Party’s Deputy Secretary General despite her lack of political experience.
The spokesperson for the Mayibuye Consultation Process, Sydney Baloyi, said Mkhize joining the organisation at such an early stage, is a testament to the importance of its mission.
“Because of her huge credentials as an organiser, an administrator and somebody who can give much needed direction and support to the many volunteers we have already signed up for the next chapter of the Mayibuye evolution.”
Baloyi said Mayibuye is still consulting the public on the question: Does South Africa need a new political party?
