A South African citizen on the Global Sumud Flotilla, sailing across the Mediterranean Sea to carry aid to Gaza, says despite being exhausted, she's determined to see the journey through to its conclusion.

Social impact and humanitarian leader, Dr. Zaheera Soomar, said the sea voyage to help deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza has taken its toll.

The flotilla, which consists of about 50 boats -- with activists from around the world on board is about 120 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.

Speaking from onboard one of the boats in the Global Sumud Flotilla, Soomar explained why she's on the journey to Gaza.

"I joined on this journey because I feel that citizens have had to take action into their own hands at the failure of our governments and our governments intervening and bringing upon peace and prosperity for the people of Palestine."

Soomar said the journey has been both physically and mentally exhausting.

"Our bodies are tired our minds are exhausted, but we are committed to continuing on this journey, and we are committed to completing our mission and hopefully in the next two to three days we will achieve and be successful in our mission."

The statement from the flotilla on Wednesday indicates that Israeli warships engaged in intimidatory maneuvers with some of the boats as the flotilla approached Gaza.
