Grandmaster Ready D's legacy spans over four decades: from being one of the founding members of Prophets of Da City, The Beatbangaz and Brasse Vannie Kaap, to sharing stages with global icons like Public Enemy, the Fugees, and Grandmaster Flash, to mentoring the next generation of DJs and creatives.
Earlier this year, Ready D also became the custodian of the 2025 UMA Icon Award. The award honours a life dedicated to rhythm, resistance, and uplifting voices through music.
Ready D's impact is felt not only in clubs and concert halls, but in classrooms, community projects, motorsport, television, and beyond.
Ready D and his wife are also associated with the non-profit organisation Great Cape Ambassadors Program (G-CAP).
The organisation uses hip-hop and other initiatives such as car drifting with a focus on road safety to inspire and empower future youth and leaders in Cape Town, particularly in his childhood neighbourhood of Mitchell's Plain, Kleinmond, and wherever the journey takes them.
The pair also drive food programmes in various communities in a way that's self-sufficient, sustainable and educational.
"When we go into these communities, there's always an element of education. We're [G-CAP] fairly young, but a lot of what we wish to do is link an educational factor to our programmes as well in order to create a degree of self-sustainability and self-sufficiency within communities and driving young people's thinking in that direction as well."
