JOHANNESBURG - Police in the North West are currently combing through a scene where five bodies have been discovered at an open pit mine in Tlhatlaganyane village.
Authorities confirmed all five men were shot, but the circumstances of the murders remain unclear at this stage.
A multi-disciplinary team is currently on scene to gather information and evidence that would not only help unravel the cause of the murders but also help identify the perpetrators.
North West police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said while the area is notorious for clashes between illegal miners, it’s too soon to link the murders to ongoing turf wars.
“As such, the police will conduct an extensive investigation that will ensure that those responsible are identified and arrested. All clues, leads are going to be investigated, including the identity and reasons for the deceased to be on the site before they were shot and killed.”
