Kwazulu-Natal's Cooperative Governance department has raised concern about a festive season crisis after the Impendle municipality failed to pay employees salaries for December.
MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi said that this is unacceptable because the workers and their families are suffering due to administrative failures.
The department said that this is not the first time the municipality is finding itself in hot water over the non-payment of staff salaries.
Spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said that the MEC has called for the issue to be dealt with swiftly.
"He also directed the leadership of the municipality to ensure that before 31 December, the salaries of the workers are paid in full."
