9 learners injured after scholar transport vehicle crashes into tree in Pinetown

Nine learners are being treated for minor to moderate injuries following an accident involving a scholar transport vehicle in Pinetown, west of Durban, on Monday afternoon.
It is understood that a seven-seater vehicle crashed into a tree while transporting the pupils home from school.
Emergency services personnel responded swiftly to the site, and are currently assessing the status of the injured children. Advanced Life Support Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson confirmed that medical teams are working to ensure all involved are accounted for and treated.
“Once the children have been stabilised on scene, they’ll be transported to various hospitals for the further care that they require,” Jamieson said.

He noted that the atmosphere at the site remains tense as parents have rushed to the scene to check on their children. Jamieson described the situation as difficult for both responders and families.
“The scene is a little bit chaotic whilst frantic parents make their way through the scene and traffic is congested as multiple ambulances are in attendance,” he added.
Police are currently at the scene and will investigate the cause of the collision.
