Lawyers for Tshwane’s suspended director for the asset protection security unit, Tshukudu Malatji, have requested a postponement of his testimony.

Malatji was scheduled to testify on Thursday at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

He is implicated in testimony before the commission that he allegedly gave preferential contractual work to the implicated company, Gubis 85 Solutions.

It's understood his actions led to the municipality exceeding its security budget.

Malatji's attorney, Sibusiso Nkosi, said that his client is struggling to access documents from the Tshwane municipality that will assist in his defence before the commission.

“One of the issues, which was quite making things difficult for him to give proper answers (during his previous testimony earlier this month), was that he was not getting proper documents that he needed from his workplace. We are all aware he is on suspension, and he is currently undergoing a disciplinary process there.”

MADLANGA COMMISSION DENIES POSTPONEMENT REQUEST

However, the evidence leaders said the supplementary documents were not voluminous in nature and do not necessitate a postponement of proceedings.

The commission’s chairperson, Mbuyiseli Madlanga, handed down the ruling.

“The application for a postponement is refused. Director Malatji is afforded an opportunity to go through whatever documents he wishes to between now and 11:30. Let’s adjourn and resume at 11:30.”
