MK Party members officially sworn in as MPs

CAPE TOWN - All uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party members who missed the original swearing-in of members of Parliament (MPs) on 14 June took their oath of office in Parliament on Tuesday.

The members initially boycotted the swearing-in ceremony over election results.

Acting Western Cape High Court Judge President Patricia Goliath presided over proceedings in the Good Hope chamber. 

National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza administered the oath to impeached judge John Hlophe, who is now leading former president Jacob Zuma’s new political outfit in Parliament. 

Twenty-one changes were made to the original candidate list handed to Parliament, including Hlophe.  

Other new recruits are former Finance Minister Des van Rooyen and former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP, Andile Mngxitama.

Former president Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, and party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela are also new to the parliamentary benches where the party will take up 58 seats as the third largest party in the house.

David Skosana, the husband of former Public Protector and now EFF MP, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is also among the new MK MPs.  

Former Sports Minister and African National Congress (ANC) NEC member Zizi Kodwa was also sworn-in on Tuesday, despite facing corruption charges.
