Saunas offer physical and mental health benefits, but are mainly found at gyms, despite economists predicting the industry to be worth $1.3 billion by 2030.
That's why Vanessa and Connor Yelseth founded Hot Huts Mobile Sauna.
Hot Huts is a revolutionary mobile sauna service that can be booked for hire or enjoyed with pop-up sessions available around Cape Town's beachfronts, giving users some warmth after an icy plunge.
Williams explains that these mobile saunas have a built-in window for ocean views as you sizzle for 15 minutes.
Each 15-minute session costs R80.
"We had them built by a master sauna builder who does all the saunas for the big hotels... It's a perfect replica of a finished sauna using the proper wood and imported fireplaces. It's a sauna on wheels, except ours has got a huge window in front of it so you can look out over the ocean so you don't feel claustrophobic at all..."
- Katherine Williams, Hot Huts
"They take up to eight people comfortably... It's a great place to meet people, book for parties, network, or have meetings..."
- Katherine Williams, Hot Huts
Sauna benefits include pain reduction, muscle recovery, enhanced cardiovascular function, stress relief, better sleep, improved lung function and lower blood pressure - especially immediately after getting out of cold water.
When a person sits in a sauna, their heart rate increases and blood vessels widen, which increases circulation in a similar way to gentle exercise.
