SAPU WC calls for better crime-fighting strategies in province

CAPE TOWN - The South African Police Union (SAPU) in the Western Cape is calling on the police in the province to come up with better crime prevention strategies in the face of rising violent crime.
 
This comes after Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia's comments this week about the police's inefficient plan to combat gang violence.
 
Several gang-related shootings have been reported in areas including Muizenberg, Mitchells Plain, and Kraaifontein in recent weeks.
 
Last night, three men in were killed by a mob in Wallacedene and their bodies were set alight, after they were accused of being criminals.
 
SAPU acting provincial secretary, Merae Otto: "We, as SAPU, are saddened by the serious violent crimes that allegedly took place in Kraaifontein. Therefore, we request from the employer for better strategies to protect the innocent lives of community members. SAPU Western Cape also calls on the employer to intensify crime-fighting strategies and prioritise intelligence driven operations."
