Showmax's latest series 'Untied' delivers breakups, betrayal, bold comebacks, and healing

Breakups, betrayal, and bold comebacks... a new series dropped this week on Showmax – it's called Untied and it’s bringing drama and healing.

Hosted by the fierce and fearless Relebogile Mabotja (702 radio host, presenter, actress, singer, producer, writer, musical director and more), this series features eight South African celebrities who’ve survived the spotlight and scandals of divorce.

Among those who have bared their souls for an - at times confronting - sit down with Relebogile are Malusi Gigaba’s ex wife Norma, Sonia Booth (who, of course, was married to soccer star Matthew Booth), and Real Housewives cast member Nonku Williams. These ladies are setting the record straight, and taking back their power.

Mabotja explains what drew her to hosting the show...

"These stories are about the human experience, which is universal... you don't have to have been married, you don't have to be a woman, you don't have to have gone through half of the things that they've been through - but we all can relate that life doesn't always go according to plan, but we'll figure it out."
- Relebogile Mabotja, Host - Untied
"It's not a show devoid of asking questions that also hold the ladies accountable, and that's a very difficult thing to deal with where you've got to find the fine balance of not victim-blaming in situations where there are victims, but also getting to the level of where we can have honest conversations of how the choices we make as human beings can lead us into situations where we are vulnerable... and then to be able to say, you know what, I could've made a different choice without carrying the shame and the guilt it comes with, because society is so difficult on women when it comes to divorce and what that says about you and your worth and your value."

Mabotja explains why she thinks the women who participated in this series to tell their truth as public figures might have done so...

"The headlines, articles are a smidgen in relation to the actual lived experience. Our real-time of seeing a divorce happen is absolute crumbs of the cake in relation to the entire story. While these people are public figures, at the end of the day, they are human beings... but when you are a public figure doing the different types of work that they do, you have to shut certain parts of yourself off, where you would rather crawl under a rock and be swallowed by the earth than be going somewhere because of what you're going through - and you have to find something bigger than yourself to show up."
- Relebogile Mabotja, Host - Untied
"So beyond the part of, 'I want to tell my story my way and there's more to the story'... it's also owning it, and they understand that they have platforms that are powerful and their stories connect us and heal us - not just as women, but as people - because if that person could go through whatever they went through and triumph, then that means I can as well."
