Some people strive to run just one marathon during their lifetime... but Julian Karp has just completed his 1,000th one at 65 years old, and he has no plans to stop anytime soon.
"I've never ever got out of bed in the morning not feeling to run... whether it's two kilometres or five kilometres."
Karp says he used to average 55 to 60 official marathons a year, but has had to make some recent changes to his routine.
"Even with a severe back injury, I've just changed my whole philosophy... I'm running slower, I'm running shorter distances."
Some of his achievements include 29 Comrades, 25 Two Oceans and 280 Ultra marathons.
Karp says he actually got into running "accidentally" many years ago, while doing exercises to strengthen his leg muscles after a football injury.
Some of the perks of this lifelong activity include the friends he has made, and all the places that he's been.
"I've run in every province, I've run in every city... I don't think there's a place I haven't run – from Upington to Johannesburg."
