JOHANNESBURG - Six suspects arrested in connection with the 2018 procurement fraud case at Eskom’s Kusile Power Station will appear in court on Monday.
The group is accused of orchestrating a scheme to steal significant funds from Eskom by acquiring a pump twice, despite purchasing it in 2015.
Police say the parastatal suffered losses worth hundreds of thousands of rand due to the alleged fraudulent activity.
The South African Police Service's (SAPS) Nonkululeko Phokane says the group was arrested in a joint operation which included intelligence structure NATJOINTS.
“During the operation, police seized a handgun, a rifle, ammunition, a laptop, and cellphones. Investigations remain ongoing. General Masemola emphasised that these arrests demonstrate the government’s commitment to tackling economic crimes that undermine the country’s stability and development.”
Phokane says the suspects are expected to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.
