This weekend, Cape Town foodies are in for a real treat.
After a 15-year break, the Taiwan Food Festival is returning to the Mother City at Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront on Sunday, 7 September from 10 am to 4 pm for a one-day celebration of flavour, culture, and community.
Five years ago, when Long launched Home Bao, most people confused Taiwan with Thailand when she said their dumplings were authentically Taiwanese. That moment sparked something in Long, a dream to share Taiwan’s rich culture and stories through food, and the festival will bring it to life.
The event is an opportunity for you to taste authentic Taiwanese dishes that you won’t find in restaurants, lovingly prepared by members of the local Taiwanese community.
"Many people don't know what Taiwanese flavour is all about," explains Long. "They actually confuse us with Thailand. Everyone knows about Japanese, Korean, and Chinese food, but not many people know about Taiwan."
She says she's wrangled some Taiwanese tannies to bring authentic local cuisine to the festival. So, come hungry and ready to experience Taiwan like never before.
