The colossal squid has been captured on camera in its natural habitat for the first time since it was discovered 100 years ago.
“The only colossal squids that scientists had ever studied had been dead in the stomachs of whales and other sea life.”

Experts believe this squid can grow up to 7 metres in length and weigh as much as 500kg.
The squid captured on camera by a group of international scientists was a juvenile, and only 30cm long.

It was spotted 600 metres deep in the South Atlantic Ocean.
