702's John Perlman speaks to Katherine Gascoigne, Treasurer and the Head of the Master's Office portfolio for the Johannesburg Attorneys Association.

Listen below:

Gascoigne explains that one of the major issues at the Joburg Master's Office has been the lack of digitisation of documentation.

As everything was paper-based, things would get lost easily - causing many frustrating delays.

"It's an enormous environment - many many deaths, insolvencies, trusts... and when things get lost, nothing happens."

The latest hurdle that those needing to deal with the Master's Office are facing is an extended power outage, and the building has never had an emergency back-up generator in place.

Gascoigne says the impact has been severe.

"It's a service that is imperative for the functioning of our economy... people can't get money, they can't spend, they can't live. It's really a problem."
