JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg's Fire and Rescue Services said it would not be able to respond to fire emergencies in Eldorado Park and surrounding areas after a fire engine was attacked.
The city's EMS has condemned the attacks on firefighters while responding to emergencies.
The firefighters came under attack with stone-throwing in Eldorado Park during a service delivery-related protest on Sunday night.
Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said that the criminal attacks, coupled with the danger that EMS teams face when responding to incidents in red zone areas have placed an added challenge on them.
"It doesn't only create fear and panic amongst firefighters but it also disrupts service delivery. This fire engine is out of commission so, it means that the residents of Eldorado Park and surrounding areas won't have a fire engine available to respond to fire incidents until the fire engine has been repaired."
Residents are urged to stop attacking @CityofJoburgEMS Firefighters/EMS personnel while rendering services to our communities, this does not only create fear and panic amongst EMS personnel but it also disrupt service delivery to our communities at large.
