The warning comes after a horse got stuck in sinking sand along Noordhoek's beach shore.

Lester Kiewit speaks to Lauren Howard of SANParks.

Howard warns Noordhoek beachgoers of sinking sand along the shoreline after a horse got stuck in a sinking spot on Tuesday, 30 January 2024.

Howard explains that this is due to areas getting over saturated with ocean water - when combined with the unique sediment of sand, sinking sand forms.

"It's not something which is new. There are areas on Noordhoek beach and other beaches where this does occur and it's also something which changes according to the environmental conditions."

While SANParks and Table Mountain National Park have not closed the beach, they are warning the public to be aware of the sinking sand.

"We always need to be aware of what happens in nature and which areas become more cautionary than others."
