The Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, failed to meet the deadline set by the High Court to decide on the proposed sale of low-cost airline Mango.

From 13 December 2023 Gordhan had 30 days to reject or approve the deal.

The court said that if he did not respond it would be presumed that the sale was accepted.

As a result, the business rescue practitioner Sipho Sono will proceed with selling the airline.

Leitch says that there seems to be no reason for Gordhan to reject the sale.

“The suspicion is increasing that he has no intention of selling off Mango to a private investor.”
