The City of Johannesburg has condemned the Democratic Alliance (DA)’s mayoral frontrunner, Helen Zille, for entering a reservoir in Yeoville without permission.
In a video, Zille can be seen pointing to the infrastructure, saying its security is compromised.
She highlighted that there are water leaks, adding that residents get their supply from the reservoir unlawfully.

The video has prompted the city’s Environment and Infrastructure Service Department to threaten legal action against trespassers.
MMC Jack Sekwaila said the city’s reservoirs are governed by strict protocol and controlled access measures.
He noted that Zille entered the facility unlawfully, adding that widespread vandalism of infrastructure has prompted them to advance security measures.
Sekwaila emphasised that reservoirs and water towers are off-limits for political activities.
