Bongani Bingwa speaks to ‘Catch Me A Killer’ lead writer, Amy Jephta.
Listen to the interview below.
‘Game of Thrones’ Charlotte Hope stars as Micki Pistorius, South Africa’s first-ever serial killer profiler in ‘Catch Me A Killer’.
From the Station Strangler to Stewart ‘Boetie Boer’ Wilken, she has worked on several gruesome cases from 1994 and the early 2000s.
The series is more of a “whydunnit” than a “whodunnit”, she says.
Adapted from Pistorius’ memoir, each episode takes a deep dive into her cases as well as experiences working in the male-dominated police force at the time.
“Micki came in with a methodology which was quite left field for a lot of detectives… it is an extremely interesting field now and one that we might understand in a modern context but back then people looked at her with a lot of scepticism.”
Amy Jephta, lead writer
“She was often an outsider in the spaces that she had to go to, meaning she had to move from police station to police station. Everywhere she went, she had to convince detectives that this is a proven way of trying to lock down who you’re looking for.”
Amy Jephta, lead writer
The series also stars Steven Ward from ‘One Piece’ and newcomer Donna Cormack-Tomson as regulars.
‘Catch Me A Killer’ premieres on Showmax on 12 February 2024.
