JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress has promised to address the rising cost of living in the country should it be re-elected as the governing party in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at the party's manifesto launch in Durban on Saturday ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa reiterated concerns about increases in the cost of food, housing and healthcare.
He said as part of the party's five-year plan for government includes food security as a priority to help alleviate the pressure faced by poor households.
Ramaphosa added that this will be done through tax exemptions on essential food items and keeping an eye on price fixing.
"We will keep a hawk's eye on those who fix prices with a view of profiting from poor people by making prices escalate on a continuous basis after fixing them in collusion," said Ramaphosa.
