Brian Steven Smith, a man from South Africa, has been convicted for the killings of two Alaskan women.
His apprehension came after law enforcement received video evidence of one of the homicides, discovered on his phone.
The footage was duplicated onto a memory card and submitted to authorities by a woman who had taken it from his vehicle.
Even though Smith's face wasn't visible, he was recognised by his distinctive South African accent.
He subsequently admitted to the murder of another woman, initially misidentified by the police.
He was found guilty of the murders of Kathleen Henry in 2019 and Veronica Abouchuk either in 2018 or 2019, along with multiple counts of sexual assault.
He is anticipated to receive a life sentence, as Alaska does not implement the death penalty.
Despite his conviction, his wife, Stephanie Bissland, has pledged her support claiming that she suspects his heavy drinking led to him committing the crimes.
"Alaska has very very high rates of violence against women."
