Professional boxer Kevin Lerena catches up with Anele and The Club on 947.
Listen to the discussion below.
Lerena has recently returned from Saudi Arabia where he put up a massive challenge against Justin Huni at the Riyadh Season ‘Knockout Chaos’ event.
He made the brave decision to continue with the 10-round fight after learning that his mother had passed away a day prior.
“I said leading up to the fight [that] death, there’s no good timing… so I just had to kind of take it in my stride. I must be honest it was hard walking to that ring, I was numb… my mother was sick for about eight weeks so when I took the fight I knew that she was in critical condition.”

Despite losing on points and not getting the result he hoped for, Lerena says he was thankful for the opportunity and remains positive going forward.
“It was a massive fight for me. Saudi Arabia has changed the landscape of boxing so to get on a massive signing card was an achievement and big for my career.”

“It was a risky fight on paper in the sense of it didn’t make much business sense but the platform I was put on, we had to take the fight.”
