DURBAN - The murder trial of a Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) lecturer has been postponed.

Chanlall Dwarika was kidnapped in May 2022 and his body was found in June in a secluded area in Inanda, Durban.

The trial of the slain electrical engineering lecturer was meant to start on Wednesday, however, it had to be delayed as the lifts used by prisoners were not functioning at the Durban High Court.

All the pre-trial matters had to be postponed on Wednesday, as the accused held in custody could not be in court.

The Durban High Court sitting at the Durban Magistrate's Court has been plagued with a series of issues, including water shortages.

This has seen the proceedings in the matter of rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes being cut short this week.

Dwarika’s case has been postponed to 18 April.
