KwaZulu-Natal police head Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is on Saturday intervening in the long-standing taxi violence between the Maphumulo and KwaDukuza taxi associations.
Tensions are once again high among north coast taxi associations, with a recent shooting taking place on Friday.
The violence over lucrative routes has lasted for over four decades now.
Police in the province have decided to intervene.
Mkhwanazi has convened a special meeting with both the KwaDukuza and its neighbouring Maphumulo taxi associations.
The gathering is looking at tackling the tension between the two to curb deadly shootings.
On Friday, a shootout ensued between two different groups linked to the association over a route; however, no one was injured during the incident.
Mkhwanazi is currently locked in a meeting with the leaders of their associations and the security companies deployed to watch the areas.
While the talks continue inside the hall, a number of public order police and tactical response teams have been deployed in their numbers.
