Mapisa-Nqakula was hauled before the governing party's integrity commission after she was accused of receiving R4.5 million in kickbacks during her tenure as defence minister.

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has remained mum on the outcomes of an investigation into alleged misconduct by former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

It was recently confirmed that maladministration claims against Mapisa-Nqakula had already been brought before the party’s integrity commission.

The commission is the governing party’s watchdog tasked with assessing the impact of the actions of its members on the organisation.

Mapisa-Nqakula was hauled before the governing party's integrity commission after she was accused of receiving R4.5 million in kickbacks during her tenure as defence minister.

She now faces charges of fraud and corruption.

While it's understood the internal probe has been completed and submitted to the secretary general’s office - ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says the matter would not be made public at this stage.

She made the comments at the ANC's headquarters in Joburg on Friday afternoon, during an election manifesto briefing.

“The integrity commission of the party is seized with the matter and true to our internal democracy and our internal control environment, the matter is being attended to.

“I know that the integrity commission has met and has addressed the issue, but I am also very keen not to discuss matters of that nature because we always grant you an audience all the time – we are discussing the geopolitical situation, international solidarity and internationalism.”
