DA's eThekwini mayoral candidate Hoosen says economic growth will feature high on his to-do list

The Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate for the eThekwini metro municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says economic growth will feature high on his to-do list.  

Hannif Hoosen was named the mayoral candidate by the party a week ago in his hometown of Chatsworth, south of Durban.  

Having previously served as a councillor and on the city's executive committee for several years, Hoosen said there is a lot to be fixed.  

Speaking to EWN in Durban on Friday, he detailed some of his plans for the city if elected mayor in the 2026 polls.

"So part of the reason why we are where we are is because we have a city government that actually forgotten the real priorities are and the real priorities are to get the basic right, and that is exactly where I intend to start."

He said if elected to the city's high office come next year, he will focus on investing in key sectors that will generate more revenue.  

"This municipality must invest much more resources in those areas that are going to help us to grow the economy, and that’s an area of focus that I will make sure it is up on the list of things to do when we occupy government here in the city."
