CAPE TOWN - Ward councillor for Nomzamo and Lwandle near Strand Xolani Diniso says it's going to take a while for people to be able to rebuild their homes.
Hundreds of residents from the neighbouring communities have been left destitute, following gale-force winds and heavy downpours in Cape Town.
Thousands of others across the Western Cape are also reeling from the aftermath of the stormy weather.

Local government officials are out assessing the extent of the damage and are also helping communities to clear debris from stormwater systems.
Diniso said the weather left a trail of destruction in the area.
"The extent of damage in this ward is very huge, both formal and informal settlements have been hugely affected, and structures have collapsed. Also, in our newly built shopping centre, the roofs and some buildings have collapsed. So, it has damaged a lot of structures around our area."
