Joburg EMS on high alert as SA Weather Service warns of heavy rain for Gauteng

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services promised that it would monitor places that would be mostly affected, especially low-lying areas.

JOHANNESBURG - Rain continues across Gauteng on Tuesday morning following a South African Weather Service (SAWS) warning of persistent heavy downpours.

Traffic officials urged motorists to be extremely careful on the roads and avoid speeding.

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) promised that it would monitor places that would be mostly affected, especially low-lying areas.

Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said teams were on the ground.

"We’re still urging our residents to exercise caution, try and avoid crossing river streams as and when they’re conducting their daily activities, [and to] monitor young kids to stay away from draining systems and also river streams."
