Cape Town police on high alert amid surge in gun violence

CAPE TOWN - Police remain on high alert in various parts of Cape Town following a number of murders and attempted murders reported to them.
Athlone is the latest community to be hit by gun violence.

On Thursday, two deadly shootings were reported in Belgravia and another in Bridgetown.
The Athlone community policing forum's (CPF) Sharon Classen said: "There is speculation that it is gang-related. That has not been confirmed as yet, but there seems to be a surge in a particular gang wanting to stamp their authority in the drug market, so to speak. So, it’s starting to infiltrate the areas."
