JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) officials are currently attending to an underground fire in the metro’s CBD on Wednesday morning.
A fire has been burning under the M1 double-decker section since the early hours of the morning.
The incident has resulted in a dark cloud of smoke in the area affecting visibility.
Motorists are being urged to use alternative routes.
“It’s mostly underground cables which are supplying electricity to Braamfontein and its surroundings,” said Joburg EMS spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi.
“Our colleagues from City Power are on scene to assist us while we try and extinguish the fire."
