The IEC in the Western Cape said it's all systems go for next week's general elections.

CAPE TOWN - The IEC in the Western Cape said it's all systems go for next week's general elections. 

Overseas voting has already concluded and on Wednesday the national results centre was officially opened. 

From Monday, special votes will be cast, ahead of election day on Wednesday. 

The Electoral Commission said there were 1.7 million approved special votes and 653,000 of these were home visits. 

Western Cape electoral officer, Michael Hendrickse: "The team has been hard at work. We have been distributing this week the last of our ballot papers. As you know, there's three different types of ballots and these have been escorted under police escort and our security teams."
