JOHANNESBURG - The death toll in the Nelson Mandela Bay floods in the Eastern Cape has risen to seven overnight.
Heavy rains broke out on Saturday night, damaging property and leaving thousands displaced.
The deadly flooding swept through parts of Kariega, Gqeberha and East London.
Nelson Mandela Bay emergency services acting head, Henry Landsdown, said that the damage in the area was severe.
"Some of the people were caught up with the flood situation, others drowned in their backyards so there were obviously various circumstances but that is the situation."
