JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC)'s national executive committee (NEC) is expected to hold a special meeting on Thursday to deliberate on coalition matters and appoint premier candidates.
The party has been forced to share governing power for the next five years after failing to retain its majority following last week's elections.
The NEC is expected to map a way forward after the party's coalition engagement with several organisations, including the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Speaking at a media briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Wednesday, party spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, said that the ANC would likely announce its final decision on Thursday.
"The most important thing is to ensure that when the options that have been set out, such as the government of local unity and a minority government, are explored by the national executive committee tomorrow, the best option will be looked at."
