JOHANNESBURG - Political parties have until Wednesday to remove their election posters tied to street poles and other public facilities in Johannesburg.
The city’s by-laws indicate that campaign material must be taken down within 14 days of the announcement of election results.

Failure to comply with the city’s regulations will result in political parties being fined R500 for each remaining poster.
The streets of Johannesburg remain colourful with election posters, despite the deadline to have them removed drawing near.
Following the 2019 national and provincial elections, the metro fined political organisations R200 for each deserted poster.
City of Johannesburg spokesperson Virgil James said abandoned campaign material is becoming an eyesore in various parts of the metro.
“We notify the relevant parties to remove the posters in the time period specified. Failing which, the council may remove the posters itself against the prescribed fee.”
Political parties often fail to meet the prescribed deadline to strip down their campaign material.
In previous elections, some parties requested extensions to the cut-off date.
