Parts of Soweto without power following substation fire

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) was on the scene of a substation fire in Zola, Soweto, on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out early on Wednesday morning, leaving large parts of the township in the dark.
Affected areas include Zola, Dobsonville, Emndeni, Mofolo North, Jabulani, Naledi, and Zondi.
Eskom said it is working with firefighters to extinguish the blaze before its technicians can assess the damage.
"EMS firefighters are in Zola, Soweto, fighting fire at a local substation. The call was received at 9 am, and the fire has not yet been extinguished,” said Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo.
