JOHANNESBURG - The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) is the latest party to join the African National Congress (ANC)-led Government of National Unity
This follows a meeting between the 1% party and the former liberation movement on Tuesday.
The Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Patriotic Alliance (PA) and GOOD Party are the other four which had already signed the agreement to work alongside the ANC after it failed to achieve a majority at the May general polls
Last week, the PAC formed part of a so-called progressive caucus - led by the Economic Freedom Fighters - which called for the ANC to engage them in the coalition talks.
The caucus included the African Transformation Movement (ATM), the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and Al Jama-ah.
Former statesman Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe joined the grouping over the weekend
PAC secretary general Apa Pooe says the progressive caucus’ work is complete.
“I’m saying the progressive forum or parties, their main objective was saying to the ANC, there’s an alternative with us, with us they can achieve 50% + 1. We’ve always wanted to be in a Government of National Unity.”
